When you’re applying for a job, it’s important to REEEEAAAAALLLLLYYYY look at the job posting. Not only will it tell you about the position itself, but it can also tell you about the type of work culture the company is. So if you're jumping ship for another, this may show you what you're getting yourself into with this new job.
There are some phrases used in job postings that are actually red flags. So if you notice any of these in the job posting, it typically means that the company isn’t a good one to work for, so tread lightly. Check it out.
- “Winner’s mindset”
- “Hustle”
- “Work hard, play hard”
- “Wear many hats”
- “Fast-paced environment”
- “Entrepreneurial spirit”
- “Self-started”
- “Team player”
- “Proactive”
All are good things when you take a step back...But when they put it in the job posting it takes on a whole new meaning. "Hustle"...that means you're going to have a LOT of long hours with no pay. "Self-started" they kind of want you to find your way and figure it out. You can spin any of them. So if you're looking for a new gig, you might want to look a little deeper.
