An iconic phone number may be going away soon. It could help a lot of people, because we all remember this...
If you don't remember it, it's going to be stuck in your head now. The iconic digits 867-5309 from Tommy Tutone's 1981 chart-topper now connect callers to cancer support specialists rather than the fictional Jenny. (now you're singing it right?)
Singer Tommy Heath, 78, collaborated with Cancer Support Community and Gilda's Club to repurpose the memorable number as a helpline. Pretty cool if you ask me. Heath, who battles minor skin cancer and has relatives fighting the disease, recognized cancer's widespread impact. "I'm out on tour with a lot of bands and suddenly somebody's not there," Heath explained to PEOPLE. Most of us know someone who has delt with cancer and it sucks. We all know that. So good on Tommy for helping raise awareness with his song that will be stuck in our heads once again.
